The UNDP Supplier Development Programme (SDP) hosted its Annual Achievements @ a Glance on Thursday 15th July 2021, at  Gaborone International Event Centre (GICC), in Gaborone. This annual check-in event brings together SDP partners and stakeholders to highlight programme milestones and reflect on opportunities for growth and expanded partnerships moving forward.

The event was officially opened by the Minister of Investment, Trade & Industry (MITI), Hon Mmusi Kgafela, following the welcome remarks delivered by the UNDP Resident Representative Ms. Jacinta Barrins. Also present at the event was the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development (MYSC), Hon. Tumiso Rakgare, whom alongside the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Botswana, H.E. A.V. Kemarskiy officially launched the Youth Connekt programme in Botswana. SDP Project Steering Committee (PSC) Co-Chairperson, Mr. Charles Siwawa, CEO of the Botswana Chamber of Mines (BCM) presented on the opportunities for SMEs in the Mining sector, whilst Mr. Oabile Mabusa, CEO, Bankers Association Botswana presented on Funding Facilitation for Botswana SMEs and the SDP Project Manager gave an overview on the programmes progress thus far. Finally, the Assistant Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Mr. Molebatsi Molebatsi gave the closing remarks at the auspicious event.

The theme ‘Building Forward Better towards Resilient & Competitive SMEs in Botswana’ was set to showcase the achievements of the SDP to date, whilst reflecting on the impact of COVID-19 and opportunities presented within the national strategies for economic recovery, transformation and diversification.
